When looking at the /View kernel it seemes to imply that 'sound will be released as a REBOL/View feature. Sadly, there's no hint of giving /View users shell access. IIRC REBOL is developed in ANSI C and although Jan made a little post about this issue a week or so ago, I can't help wondering how hard it'd be to include stdlib.h and allow people to merely use the system() function. Oh well, there is little point in persuing this further, it's just that I'd really like to see REBOL grow among the grassroots and I think /View with shell access (and preferably sound too) is a must for that to happen. The only somewhat "practical" way to circumvent the lack of shell access seems to be writing a minimalistic TCP server in e.g. Java that sits on a port and executes strings sent to it from localhost. Either that or having every bloke in the world registering View/Pro or registering a SDK and cashing out with $1000 + another $100 per additional platform. REBOL is a fab piece of technology. It's a fab piece of software for corporations and organisations with money. For the others though... Enough ranting about RT's business practices though and here's hoping that they'll give us shell access in view at least next X-Mas... /Lennart Fridén ([lennart--nylen--biz]) The World is not sane so why should I be?
