I'm not sure what the difference between open-and-free and closed-and-free would be with regards to REBOL's popularity, but there's a great example of the difference between free and not-free on Go here... enter REBOL in the search engine and this is the result you get... Core - freeware - 2,946 downloads. View - shareware, $49 - 222 downloads. People like free. Personally I would've prefered RT to be selling developers' versions of REBOL with "player" versions for free, (no Console and help and stuff perhaps), but I acknowledge REBOL's a very hard language to work out how to sell. -- Carl Read
