I'd nominate your countryman, Edsger W. Dijkstra, and an Oxfordian, C.A.R. Hoare, as two candidates for that role. Unfortunately, I am convinced that the true value of their work will not be recognized until many more years pass. Wasn't it Paul Dirac who was asked "When will quantum mechanics be the standard model in Physics?" and replied When all the old physicists die! ? ;-) -jn-
