[REBOL] Re: Making money with Rebol?

I know where you are coming from. I actually ran across this same situation
when I used to write Visual BASIC. VB was still young, and while it was one of
the fastest ways to write an application at the time, people still thought it
must be written in C. By the time I learned C well enough, Visual BASIC was
largely accepted by the masses. Where I work now, I actually got hired because
I was a C programmer, though I haven't written a single line of it on the job.
The problem is that your prospective clients are pre-educated. In order to
break in, you would need to re-educate them, or conform to thier belief system.
This relates to pulling thier teeth, or pulling your own. Not much fun either
way.
One alternative is to get uneducated clients and educate them. Small businesses
tend to be uneducated about computerized solutions. Some businesses spend days
on simple repetitive reports, just because they do not know how easily such
things can be automated. Many still dont even have a web presence. Yes, true
they usually dont have much money, but that means you just sell them smaller
solutions.
If you want to work for a company, at this time you probably wont get hired
because your a REBOL programmer. That will probably take a few more years,
unless you live near me.
I am in the process of wrapping up a Palm OS based data collection system.
While not picky about what language you use on the server end, REBOL of course
has numerous benifits. This system should provide the REBOL community some
system integration opportunities. I will tell more at a later time.
By using REBOL, I have probably doubled my productivity, at the same time
doubling my capabilities. To provide twice the solution for half the cost, is a
treasured position to be in.
