[REBOL] REBOL hosting

From: ptretter:charter at: 7-Nov-2003 0:14

Just wanted everyone to know we got a new hosting provider for REBOL cgi scripts. I must say I have been very pleased since I got with these guys. I didn't know these guys at all until I started with them and they have been great since. I really hope we show them our gratitude for their efforts. Here is an affiliate link I got for their services if your interested: http://www.aitsafe.com/go.htm?go=www.lowesthosting.com&afid=33977&tm=30&im=1 I do get paid for that link for a "finders fee" so if you don't wish for me to get that then I still ask of you to check them out at www.lowesthosting.com. Paul Tretter ----------------------------------------------- Hello Paul, We have forwarded your request to our sys admin , and he was convinced that the REBOL would not cause any problem for the server. We went ahead and installed it for your domain ( FOR FREE :-) ) at /home/httpd/vhosts/tretsoft.com/cgi-bin/rebol/rebol and also installed a test script to check the working of REBOL . http://tretsoft.com/cgi-bin/rebol/now.cgi Check it .. and confirm the working . Go ahead and break the good news to your friends . :-) . Thank you. However, I only know REBOL and not those others which really reduces my capability to really enjoy the site. Here is a link to info on REBOL CGI: http://www.rebol.com/docs/cgi1.html Here is just an expert of that article. a.. REBOL is the same on all systems. That means that you can write and debug your script on your local Windows or Mac system where it is much easier. Then, when you are ready, you can upload the script to a Linux, BSD, or some other server, and the script will work fine. This features also lets you use scripts written by other developers without caring about what operating system they run on. a.. REBOL is very small and requires no installation. REBOL/Core is less than 300 KB on most platforms. That means you can download REBOL in a few seconds. And, because it does not need to be installed, you're all ready to go. It's that easy! a.. REBOL does not require administrative (root) permission. That makes your IT or computer admin folks happy because it means they don't have to worry about it "taking down" the server. And, it makes you happy too, because you can get REBOL CGI working without waiting for the IT folks to install or upgrade the program. If its security reason why its not allowed then you might look at the third bullet. I just really want to enjoy my experience at lowesthosting.com and do some creative work. From my domain name you can probably tell - I want to sell software. In fact - software made with REBOL. Its the only language I know and makes good sense for me to sell it and script it with REBOL. I know that I can eventually setup a pretty good ecommerce package if I make it myself down the road. Additionally, I can help your programmers in support issues as I am a long time REBOL programmer. Even further I will walk right into the REBOL List and post your url and copy you on it if you support REBOL for hosting and you will most likely get more customers as a result. Let me know if I should talk to some managers or others at Lowesthosting.com if the decision lies in their hands. Also, everyone has been wonderful in getting my process rolling. Looks like everything is going good. I had a slight problem where I couldn't connect to my control panel but seems to be something with my Internet Explorer configuration on both of my computers. I used my Netscape browser and it worked fine. Thanks again, Paul Tretter
