[REBOL] Why RSS

From: premshree::pillai::gmail::com at: 26-Jan-2005 15:42

Carl hasn't yet provided RSS feeds for his blog. I thought maybe I should post this here so that anybody else can add something more to convince Carl to add RSS support. :) So here's the deal: there are loads of blogs that one keeps track of. Now, nobody goes to every weblog's homepage to view the recent posts and stuff -- that's impossible. What most people use is something called a "RSS aggregator", which basically is an application using which you can subscribe to various feeds -- using _one_ interface. Bloglines (http://www.bloglines.com/) is a good example of a web-based aggregator. Now the reason you should care about RSS (or other feed formats) is simply because you're losing readership if you don't! It is a well-known fact that a good amount (in many cases more than 50%) readership comes through aggregators. Until REBOL replaces XML -- for which you need to position REBOL as a potential candidate first (and I agree; http://www.livejournal.com/users/premshree/49049.html) -- we have to use XML. :) HTH -- Premshree Pillai http://www.livejournal.com/~premshree
