eg. the descriptive text of rebol

--

It's a messaging language ` 'rebel' not 'ree-ball' ` code is data
and data is code ` CGI? Yes ` 40+ platforms ` only 250K-500K ` console
or GUI ` Yes, just a single file ` commercial versions = same core
+ ODBC, SSL, and more - shallow learning curve, amazing depth ` keep
IT simple ` if you liked "The Matrix"...

is lengthy and not focus... it also do not need to be at the top
of every page...maybe it should go below 'About'

By the way, something that I never really liked is the short rebol
description at the top of rebol.org. "'rebel' not 'ree-ball'" <-
kind of rude, telling the interested party how to pronounce "rebol"
before they've even tried it. "if you liked 'The Matrix'" is kind
of childish (notwithstanding the fact that I didn't think The Matrix
was such a great movie).

We may be slow, but we get there: http://www.rebol.org

The banner text has been updated to ready pretty much what Anton
suggested.

Thanks Anton!

a reminder for those flying over for DevCon.

Please do not tell the immigration officer or customs officer that
you are here
- for 'rebel' conference
- to change the world
- for 'X' Internet
- and other terms that even geeks may have problems understanding

Some decisions I will never understand. Turining "LiveScript" into
"JavaScript", spelling it "R-E-B-O-L" but calling it "rebel". Like
there isn't enough confusion in the world today :)

I agree with Brian. LiveScript was a better name, and reduced confusion.
I have never like Rebel, but really like the idea of Rebel.

There are so many exmaples of name space conflict where there does
not need to be.

And on the topic of AJAX:	http://www.macworld.com/news/2006/04/21/ajax/index.php

In my first post about Rebel I meant to say "I never liked Rebol
(the spelling), but like the idea behind the name.

REBOL sounds boyish because its a bad typo of Rebel.
BrianH:

The word Rebel is boyish - the typo just sounds like it came from
a tech company (everyone does it).

I also agree with Henrik, and believe that you really need to stress
that the name was derived from an acronym as pointed out by Henrik.
Once that is fully understood, the relationship to rebel or the
negative meaning should be a thing of the past. The benefit is more
people will be aware of the acronymn that was used to derive the
name.
Maxim:

the use of R3 as a name is less annoying. I hate saying rebel in
conversation when refering to it. it really doesn't give a good
impression. which is why I do my best NOT to pronounce it rebel,
but rEbOl.
Maxim:

the fact that name change comes back over and over IS a clue to the
fact that the name isn't well chosen.

its aggressive, that's all there is to it for me. if rebol was called
"goat" "lisa" or "amigo". we wouldn't care about the name... it
would just be a label, but rebol, which is intended to be a spin
on rebel, isn't passive. it has some kind of "I know better than
you" tone to it, which REALLY doesn't cross well in the real-world
marketplace.
