btw - has anyone solved calendaring functions? I am about to proceed
with our toursist portal and part of it are various Events in the
region. Of course there is a date when such even happen. But it may
get more complicated and I don't know how much should I complicate
it :-) E.g., you may have some event, which is happening each monday
for two months, you have some event, which is happening the same
term each year. I am thinking of introducing time-slots, so that
you can e.g. set 9:00 - 11:00, 13:00 - 15:00 in one day. But dunno
how to aproach calendar. E.g. in one app I needed to count working
days - not so easy, especially when each country can have various
holidays etc.
Pekr:

but maybe I will not offer so much complicated solution, or I would
have to implement whole calendaring facility, which surely is not
trivial, or projects like Sunbird (Mozilla calendar) would be done
in one day :-)

Hi Izkata, I have been trying to use your calendar application. When
I paste Scheduler.r in to view I get the following error message:

** Script Error: Interface has no value
** Near: view/new/title Interface "Calendar"
do %NetworkingStuff.r

when I click on the file it causes view to shut down. What am I doing
wrong?
Izkata:
22-Jan-2008
I've figured out part of what's going on with the calendar - got
it down to a single line of draw dialect that's causing Rebol to
segfault, both on the most recent Windows and Linux versions:

view layout [box 120x70 effect [draw [pen red white polygon 0x0 119x0
119x69 0x69]]]

Something changed between View versions 1.3.1 and 1.3.2 that's causing
this... It was working fine with 1.3.1
Izkata:
22-Jan-2008
ScottM, in the main Scheduler.r file, there are two lines in the
MakeMonth function that use that, and are what are causing it not
to work (when run from the file, at least). If you comment them
out, you lose the nice borders that each day would have in the calendar,
but it won't crash.

I'll go update what's on Rebol.org, and see if I can make a quick
workaround or something, so the borders stay.

Colin -- "Problem is nobody is really looking for "rebol"."
That's true -- they are looking for solutions to problems.

It is possible for our websites to rank highly in all sorts of areas.
For example, in the last three days people have found REBOL.org
because it ranks in the top 10 for Google for these phrases:
-- hex to integer converter
-- gui maker
-- html script calendar notes
-- script library
-- parsing html links

I suggested a year or so back (REBOL world, Advocacy, I think) that
REBOL wevbsite owners could collaberate to help these sorts of rankings.
 Still true.

I got another request that I think will be cool. Add a private option
to the calendar so that it can be run in a local mode so that the

[1] Grouping of calendar events so you can filter select which type
or with whom, specific calendar events are shared with, for display.
[2] Weekview in the calendar to fit more events pr. day

[3] Events from calendar formatted as a chronological TODO or activity
list

[4] Export the calendar as HTML (it's a real problem if you have
many events per day and can only see a small amount of them)

[5] Dynamic width of the user/group list to the left. Many group
titles are chopped off.
[6] Filter search in the Users and Groups list

[7] Bigger/adjustable text area size in checklist entries, so it
would be more suitable to store makedoc2 formatted documents in them
(instant document repository!)

[8] Export checklists in makedoc2 format for integration in other
makedoc2 docs

[9] Checklists as a column view. It would mean for Checklists: Spreadsheets
that Checklists are in the left column and Spreadsheets are in the
right column. You can select other checklists immediately without
having to go back to the top and select a new one.

[10] Generally resizable windows everywhere. Small text areas are
annoying!

0) multiple fallback mechanisms for getting/staying connected.

1) absolute control of what is actualy removed from local machine...
ever.

2) better support for using a single account from several machines.
3) better support for using several worlds from one computer.

4) finer control of what posts you are exposed to. (groups and users
and users in groups)
5) filesharing
6) api, locks, so we can muck with the filesets.

7) calendar,just fix it up. hour/day/week views, sorting,repeated,various
alerts ...
8) adjustable font sizes

9) search should return hits (the text) from further back than your
message buffer limit.
10) OSX support & recycle bug

1. link tasks with the calendar

2. "clear all" a simple button which removes red color of all groups.
usefull when skipping a few days...

3. HIDE groups (and users). just add simple check mark to window
which lists all available groups and any you check-off are removed
from the list you look at (yet you still receive their posts, if
you want to look at them another time).

4. per group moderators for private AND public groups (delete posts,
insert posts, manage users, etc. A part from "opting out", users
are not able to change the setup (like deleting the group), group
name, list of users in private group, etc ).

5. single file export of all selected task lists and their tasks
(ascii or html)

6. SORT task list... we cannot sort the task lists... only the tasks
they contain... a real bitch when working with others...

7. Also allows read-only mode for private groups for people not
in private users list. Great to manage announcements for private
tools.
8. 'workdays only - weekend only' option for calendar

9. properly support hours in calendar tasks, so that hours are always
available, right now, the software often ignores any data we put
in the hours field..

We have already put RSS, iCal, and iFrame feeds (syndication) into

Volker - isn't checking against the calendar too preliminary during

BrianH:
26-Jun-2006
Petr, 29-Feb-2006 is always an invalid date. You can't say "Under
some condition it could be even valid date (leap year)" because the
year 2006 is specified in that date, and 2006 is not a leap year.

Data types have syntactic forms and semantic constraints. In order
for the loader to recognize the data type, the syntactic form must
be followed. In order for the resulting data to be valid, the semantic
constraints must be obeyed. One such constraint is that date! values
must correspond to a date on the calendar. Semantic violations are
the bugs that all of that nasty exploit code does its job.

Because the earliest and latest time zones are 26 hours apart, any

a better web is coming, just got this from google:

Dear Google Apps admin,

In order to continue to improve our products and deliver more sophisticated
features and performance, we are harnessing some of the latest improvements
in web browser technology. ÊThis includes faster JavaScript processing
and new standards like HTML5. ÊAs a result, over the course of 2010,
we will be phasing out support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0
as well as other older browsers that are not supported by their own
manufacturers.

We plan to begin phasing out support of these older browsers on the
Google Docs suite and the Google Sites editor on March 1, 2010. ÊAfter
that point, certain functionality within these applications may have
higher latency and may not work correctly in these older browsers.
Later in 2010, we will start to phase out support for these browsers
for Google Mail and Google Calendar.

Google Apps will continue to support Internet Explorer 7.0 and above,
Firefox 3.0 and above, Google Chrome 4.0 and above, and Safari 3.0
and above.

Starting next week, users on these older browsers will see a message
in Google Docs and the Google Sites editor explaining this change
and asking them to upgrade their browser. ÊWe will also alert you
again closer to March 1 to remind you of this change.

In 2009, the Google Apps team delivered more than 100 improvements
to enhance your product experience. ÊWe are aiming to beat that in
2010 and continue to deliver the best and most innovative collaboration
products for businesses.

Thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,

The Google Apps team

All batteries and some examples are included.
Based on 1.3.1 viewtop code.

Ah, you fix one problem only to discover a bigger one! Anyway I've
uploaded build#89 which addresses the two specific issues above:

1) Clicking the close button on a window now forces an unfocus but
*without* triggering the on-unfocus action (or a show).

The /close refinement of display must now return true or false to
proceed or not with the close operation.

2) Clicking a button only fires its action if it is not the current
focal face and the focal face's on-unfocus action returns true

Try these with the test code posted above. You should see that it
now behaves as you would expect. But now try the following code:

	display "" [
		field
		calendar
	]

Click on the field and start to type, then click on the calendar
and continue typing! Why does this happen? It happens because when
we detect the 'down event we have no way of knowing whether it originated
from the field or the calendar. %display.r *should* be able to have
a detect function that (among other things) does a:

	if all [
		find [down up alt-down alt-up] event/type
		face <> view*/focal-face
	][
		code to check on-unfocus
		code to do an unfocus
	]

but this will not work because of a view bug that causes face to
be the window face *not* the face that originated the event. Urrgh.
At this time I can't see how to trap and process mouse click focal
changes. Might have to delve into the VID sources again to see how
(if) it was solved there.
Ashley:
22-Apr-2007
Build#90 uploaded to SVN with mouse focus hack borrowed from VID.
Run this script:

	display "" [

  field on-unfocus [either (length? face/text) > 3 [true] [false]]
		button [print "click"]
		calendar
	]

Click in the field and type a character, then try clicking the button
or calendar, continue typing and then click the button and calendar
again.
Ashley:

Uploaded build#108.

1) Fixed UI quirks with tree widget

2) Renamed vid widget to style

3) Added a new scroll-panel widget

	USAGE:
		scroll-panel data [calendar]
		scroll-panel data [field field]

	DESCRIPTION:
A panel used to group widgets within a scrollable container.

4) Added a new sheet widget

	USAGE:
		sheet
sheet options [size 3x3 width 2]
		sheet data [A1 1 A2 2 A3 "=A1 + A2"]

	DESCRIPTION:

Simple spreadsheet, based on rebocalc.r, with formulas calculated
left to right, top to bottom.

A cell is either a scalar value, string, or a formula starting with
  "=".

Scalar values are automatically right-justified, series values left-justified.

Remember to put spaces between each item in a formula and use ()
  where needed.

	OPTIONS:
'size specifies number of columns and rows
'width specifies cell width in relation to cell height

5) Updated %tour.r to incorporate examples of tree (List), scroll-panel
(Grouping) and sheet (List) usage.

Enjoy!

Vertical tabs - What are anyone's thoughts on vertical tabs? They
look cool, and I can see their use, but they strike me as...well...annoying,
similar to my issue with Rotary (spinner). Rotating or obscuring
information just seems not worth it.

Here is an image of vertical tabs
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Vertical_tabs_sample.png

Coloured tabs - As to colouring tabs, interesting. I'm a big opponent
of colours generally. One of the most common requests we get on
our Calendar is to be able to colour meetings. We ARE indeed going
to allow this, but I think it is better to keep things neutral.
On the Mac, meetings are "categorized" into things like Work and
Personal, each of which are given colour. This works well in "personal
calendar systems", but this breaks down very quickly when working
in a "collaborative calendar system".

Who gets to decide the colour of something?

What is "something"? As in, is it by project, by who is in it? By
what it is (a meeting, a flight, a memo, a call, or other things
people can put on a calendar now).

All very tricky.

If you move your cursor quickly over the calendar on the left, it
will leave a trail while focusing, it gets worse when you try to
select a button in the scroll panel. But the right calendar is not
affected.

But once you start clicking on the calendar, the text will be hidden
again. Another hovering on the second or third table entrywill bring
it back again. This only happens to text and fields. Text in buttons
are not affected.

does not use its system/locale in its own calendar ;-)

Yes, you can flop around in the MSDN archive for a while before you
find what you want. An example which I am working on now is extracting
Calendar data from Outlook.

.. but when I set TTSModeID it doesn't work. I am not sure if I am
using the right TTSModeID or if I am passing it correctly...

Robert, I'm extracting Outlook Calendar Appointments and Contacts.
Just rudimentary at the moment, though. I haven't figured out how
to surely extract all the properties.

Maxim, maybe it depends on the size of your hand and possibly a thicker
iPhone, but I can browse photos, make calendar appointments, browse
webpages, select music and type with one hand easily on the iPod.
No gestures needed. I'd think I have average size hands.

Christoph, and I will suggest that what would have made it "magical"
were simply a form of skin, but a little deeper in the form of a
template.

This way, as an example, you could select a template for your "group"
called "Soccer moms", and it would show you a calendar, a bunch of
"starter threads", and a scratchpad, for example.
The engine was all there for this.

You could tweak your templates, and share them with others, which
could be rated.

Henrik, does this mean that it is going to _much_ harder to port
R3 than previous versions? I realize it will be harder as there
is likely more system dependant code than in the past? I also realize
there is going to more dependence on the community to kick-in for
various platform ports. I agree however that the linux and OSX versions
should come after the windows, but the plugin needs to be within
this calendar year. [Unless R3 is going to be so good without it
that the X-internet that was invisioned years ago will be more possible]

Short VID3.4 status:

- Some extra formatting options in the DOC style.

- I added a numeric field today similar to the one on my old blog
site for VID, except that this one took half a day to do instead
of a week and was way easier to implement.

- Skin is changing appearance a bit, both to simplify and to extend
its possibilities. This made it possible to build pixel-perfect text
areas, lists and other combined faces, finally.

- Some bugs remain in the layout engine which make certain layouts
look a little messy. Still not sure that MAX-SIZE is the right approach.

- Added CONTAINER to help produce aforementioned pixel perfect styles.
As a bonus, such styles will have a common border, which we then
can change in a simple way.

- Looked a bit at a CALENDAR style for a date picker, but decided
that it is better to wait a bit with that to finish some other base
styles first.
Henrik:

Yes, I know. I think it will make more sense, when I get more container
styles done. It will be very useful in the case of a date field style,
table style and calendar style. There was a problem in the past with
aligning multiple styles in a nice-looking way. Container solves
that.

OK, I got a quick job: I need to make a one-month calendar in VID3.4
complete with day names and dates. I just need the algorithm to generate
the necessary VID block. It must be coded in R3.

generic calendar module for R2 / R3 use can be found at http://rebol.mustard.co.nz/calendar.r
- this assumes a minimal amount of data necessary to build a monthly
calendar with optional first-day-of-weeks (rather than REBOLs default
Monday..)

I thought I'd just mention it here... a it's a bit odd, and perhaps
not entirely reproducible. But I got my JS calendar working. But
I could not see any data coming in from my rsp script that was pulling
data from the db and sending it back as json until I put some debugging
statements in .. and then it works. Bizarre. Or some browser cache
issue.

Good reasons, and I agree, the best way to do this.
We nee da universal XML export import with ID compare.

In other words, CureCode needs to be able to export itself as XML
(Easy).
It needs to import XML (Easy)

It needs to import XML and update the old XML keying on some ID value.
 Not so easy.

Once done, building things like RSS feeds with just the top 10 recent
changes becomes easy.

Also, then we can sync Qtask and CureCode. There are a lot of cool
side effects though…

-	We have an integrated file share, so you can link to screen shots.
-	Qtask has the ability to have conversation about each issue.
-	You can throw your issues onto a calendar view.

I know this is not your concern right now, but this is the direction
we are going in, and need to learn how to best allow this type of
integration. Much as you have made one thing to test another, we
have the same problem constantly.
