[DevCon2005] DevCon 2005

:-)
DSS does a lot of buffering, 2 or 3 secs or so.

Where do I grab the DevCon2005 branded version of show.r?
Gabriele

[1017]
not available yet - will be very soon.

gabriele, do you want me to create a scaled down version of the clock?
shouldn't be too hard...

My plane leaves in 36 hours. ;)

can you think of an effect to make it draw attention when time is
less than 5 minutes?
Henrik

[1021]
it would be easy to make it flash in annoying colors

Blur?

ok... if you want to play with it... i'd be very happy :) let me
start working on show.r in the meantime.
(so maybe you can work directly on show.r)

ashley: http://hmkdesign.dk/rebol/clock.zipin case you missed it
(it's a pretty good demo of basic skinning of REBOL GUIs I think)

Cute, I like it. ;)

Totem, the standard player in Gnome, says it has no codec for the
stream
Gabriele

do you have mplayer too?
mplayer is likely to work, though not all versions support rtsp.
VLC is your best choice.

kaj: are you using totem for gstreamer or totem-xine?
in my experience gstreamer hardly ever works
gabriele, updated it now. a test timer starting at 0:05:03 starts
doing something interesting at 0:04:59 :-)
(and it cost 6 lines of code...)

Yeah, I found out last week. I'm using totem-xine now
VLC 0.8.1 on Ubuntu fails silently
Gabriele

[1037x2]
strange, i have 0.8.2 (downloaded to see if it supported h264) but
i don't think there's much difference with 0.8.1
worst case, most people will have to see the recordings after the
devcon, instead of the live stream.

MPlayer 1.0-pre6 on Ubuntu fails silently as well; hangs itself,
even
Sigh. Linux is still the same after all these years. VERY easy to
install software - so now I have nine media players that all don't
work

it is possible, that you can't receive UDP packets. it's hard to
make rtsp work without UDP. in theory... transport should be negotiated...
but it seems to me that players don't do a good job at it, and DSS
doesn't seem to be smart in this case either.

Are there any firewall issues?

hmm, curious if you guys will make it to work, as key-speach by Carl
is friday am, so I will have to take vacation to stay at home to
watch it :-) (as when at work, we are behind the firewall and I don't
expect it to work, if it does not support proxy and default 80 port
....)
Gabriele
24-Sep-2005
[1044]
Pekr: it's much safer for you to wait for when i upload the video
files :-)
Pekr
24-Sep-2005
[1045]
:-) yes, it is ... how long after the speach they will be ready for
download? :-)
Gabriele
24-Sep-2005
[1046x5]
at least a week (i'll try to make it as soon as possible...)
http://www.colellachiara.com/devcon05/Show05.zipfor your presentations!
note, that this is based on Carl's latest show.r, i.e. the one he
used last here, not the show.r you can find around :-)
Henrik: you may want to play with it. i just plugged your BG and
timer in. some adjustments may be needed.
everything should scale up to your screen size... but i only tested
it on 1280x1024.
(so far)

a week? So you think we will have to wait a week to hear possitive
news about Rebol future? (if there will be any :-)
Gabriele

we'll be on altme too, and i'll have skype on, and hopefully the
video stream works... other than that, yes, editing and encoding
takes a lot of time.
i'll be back home on tuesday 4th, and will start editing and encoding
the keynote immediately. hopefully, it will be ready by 5th...
bte, you're home now petr? do you see the stream if you try the above
url with QT or VLC?
*btw
Pekr

[1056]
no, I am at work right now - I was at the town, so I choosed to visit
the work ... so behind the firewall ...
Gabriele

(I think that Carl and Cindy are likely to be in Rome already. :)
Pekr

[1058]
so what is the stream address? is it rtsp protocol like it was last
time?
Gabriele
24-Sep-2005
[1059x2]
rtsp://217.133.2.35/teststream.sdp
(of course, ti will be different for devcon.)
