So it should work in recent versions of most open-source players.
MPlayer, VLC, theoretically even Syllable...

Kaj, it does on my system. Of course the container format needs to
be handled by a splitter from a different source, but that may not
affect VLC and such.

I think FFMPEG does the .MOV container format

i'll see if latest vlc can play what's coming out from QT Broadcaster.
Graham: "NON POTABILE" is how that is written in italian. :)

I was talking about the MP4 container format. We were talking about
portable formats, right? H.264 in Quicktime requires version 7, which
is still a little shaky on Windows, and absent on Linux. MP4 doesn't
require Quicktime, even if the standard file format is still a derivative
of an older version of the Quicktime file format.
I'm mostly concerned since there is no chance I'll make it to Italy
this year :(

Yeah, when I saw non potable I thought Graham was making reference
to not having a place to go to the bathroom.

I get timeouts trying to access the site ... and have over the last
week I've tried to access it. Any chance of a mirror?
Gabriele

if anyone wants to mirror it. let me know. it's very strange though...
latest VLC does not play H.264 (just tried)
the quality with H.263 is lower... but it works on VLC too.
is there one (cannot feed more than one from here) brave soul connected
from europe and with VLC or QT?

helloo :-) *waves back*
a few motion artifacts but very good
ok, now it stopped
gabriele, by the way, was the clock timer usable?
Gabriele
24-Sep-2005
[996x4]
a bit big for my purpose maybe. i'll try it out anyway. i want to
have a special version of show.r with a timer built-in. the idea
is that if the speaker is getting late the timer starts to complain
;)
i wonder why the stream stopped for you...
i really think rtsp is very unreliable.
btw, you using QT or VLC?
Henrik

vlc
restarted it and now it works again
Gabriele

[1002x2]
i guess it stops if it misses too many packets.
do you think it is reliable enough to follow a speech?
Henrik
24-Sep-2005
[1004x5]
audio drops out once in a while
for about 1/4 second
every 2-5 seconds
video would be reliable enough for a speech, yes
I'll try QT, hang on...
Gabriele
24-Sep-2005
[1009]
ok
Henrik

QT gave me 1/2 second of sound and a couple of frames of video
VLC is much more stable
